Important 2017 End of Year Tax Statements, Form 1099-R's: The General Employees' Retirement Fund wants to remind retirees and beneficiaries that important information is being mailed to them. End of year tax statements, Form 1099-R's will be mailed before the January 31, 2018 IRS deadline. Form 1099-R's contain important information that is needed to file and pay your taxes. Reprints of 2017 tax statements can be requested after February 14, 2018. Retirees with questions should contact the General Employees' Retirement Fund for further information or access the Form 1099-R Mini Guide. Tax related questions should be directed to a tax advisor or IRS tax department representative.
General Employees' Retirement Fund Receives 2017 PPCC Award: The Public Pension Coordinating Council (PPCC) on October 14, 2017, awarded the General Employees' Retirement Fund its second Public Pension Standards Award for Funding and Admininstration. The award represents the General Employees' Retirement Fund has met the professional standards for plan funding and administration as set forth in the PPCC's public pension standards and reflect minimum expectations for public retirement system management and administration; as well as serve as a benchmark by which all defined benefit public plans should be measured. The Public Pension Coordinating Council is a coalition of the National Association of State Retirement Administrators (NASRA); the National Council on Teacher Retirement (NCTR); and the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems (NCPERS). Together, these associations represent more than 500 of the largest pension plans in the U.S.
GE Retirement Fund Distributes Member Handbooks to City of Tampa General Employee Group: All general employees will receive member handbooks from the General Employees' Retirement Fund during the week of June 5, 2017. These documents are being distributed to the departments by GE Retirement Fund staff with support from Human Resources. The intent of the handbook is to enhance retirement education and awareness of the two different retirement plans (Division A - Defined Benefit Plan and Division B - Defined Benefit Plan) and benefits that are administered by the GE Retirement Fund. As much as possible, this document is written in nontechnical terms, avoiding the formal language of the retirement laws and rules.
