The City of Tampa is excited to welcome members of the public to its City Center at Hanna Avenue in East Tampa. The 161,000 square foot building now serves as a centralized location for multiple city departments, a community gathering spot, and a workforce development center.

Located at 2555 East Hanna Avenue, just North of East Hillsborough Avenue, the project's ultimate goal is to increase efficiencies across city operations, bringing government closer to its residents, while also spurring economic development and uplifting the surrounding communities. Its construction also created workforce opportunities for small, local, and minority-owned businesses. The general contractor, DPR Construction, was given an unprecedented 35% overall Equal Business Opportunity (EBO) project completion goal (20% Black Business Enterprise (BBE) and 15% Small Local Business Enterprise (SLBE). DPR exceeded the 20% BBE participation requirement for minority-owned firms.

"City Center at Hanna Avenue is a key example of how we're Transforming Tampa's Tomorrow in a smart, resilient, and responsible way," said Mayor Jane Castor. "From the location, to nearly every detail that went into its construction and design, this building reflects our commitment to providing the best service to our residents and businesses."

The City Center at Hanna Avenue features improved access to government services, ample parking space, access to public transportation, and added green space. The surrounding area will also benefit in the following ways:

  • The project propelled a transportation study which expanded beyond the immediate site to assess the volume on local roadways. The collected data has already resulted in dedicated City funding for improvements as part of the Citywide Mobility Plan.
  • Pedestrians and bicyclists within adjacent neighborhoods will benefit from improvements to roadways and sidewalks.
  • Homeowners within adjacent neighborhoods may see an increase in their property values.
  • The City Center may help current businesses grow and accelerate the development of new businesses in the surrounding area.

The City Center at Hanna Avenue also includes spaces for community members to learn, work, and gather. The community meeting room will be available for reservations to neighborhood groups and other organizations beginning early 2024.

Mayor Jane Castor will be joined by Brian Yarborough with DPR Construction and Stephen Bridges, a construction project manager who gained valuable work experience through this project and whose family also lives within the nearby community, for a special media unveiling on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
