Hillsborough River Goes Green Ahead of River O' Green

This information is 1 month 2 weeks old and may no longer be accurate.

The Hillsborough River is going green ahead of next weekend’s Tampa’s Downtown River O’ Green event. Today, Friday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m., the Tampa Downtown Partnership, Grow Financial, and City of Tampa Water Department will test the dye that will transform the river as part of the annual St. Paddy’s Day celebration.
Media members are encouraged to attend to capture visuals of a specially equipped boat temporarily coloring a portion of the river, as well as interviews on what visitors can expect during the Tampa’s Downtown River O’ Green event on March 16.

The coloring is safe for the environment, humans, and animals. It's non-toxic, biodegradable, meets all EPA standards, and is certified to comply with National Sanitation Foundation Standard 60 for use in and around drinking water. This is the same dye often used in eye surgeries, food, and water systems to trace the flow of drinking water.

The Tampa Downtown Partnership will host Tampa's Downtown River O’ Green presented by Grow Financial on Saturday, March 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The free, family-friendly festival also includes food vendors, a wide variety of beers, a pet costume contest, and plenty of fun activities. New this year, the Tampa Rough Riders are bringing their signature St. Patrick’s Parade to the streets of Downtown Tampa to coincide with Tampa’s Downtown River O’ Green.
