Deputy Chief O'Connor joined the Tampa Police Department in 1994 and currently serves as the Deputy Chief over Operations.
Deputy Chief Keith O’Connor has played a critical role in the department’s crime reduction success as a supervisor in patrol and the former street level drug unit, QUAD. As a patrol captain he was instrumental in creating a new enforcement program to prevent violent crime in the city’s entertainment districts. He also spearheaded the creation of the department’s first homeless liaison position, and served as commander of the Crowd Management Team that worked to diffuse potential conflicts with demonstrators during the Republican National Convention, and helped showcase the agency in a positive light nationally. He recently oversaw the investigation into a series of murders that occurred in Southeast Seminole Heights. He earned his BA in Criminology from the University of South Florida.
